This Week’s Message From the Coach…
The players’ uniforms got dirty again this week as the Blue Devils slugged it out in the mud against Schlarman. The Devils dominated from start to finish winning 42-8 and thus securing a spot in IHSA playoffs. Reed Collins again led an impressive running attack with 202 yards on 25 carries and four touchdowns. Luke Thornsbrough, Matt LeCleir, Ross Darby, and Tyler Russell combined for another 140 yards on a night when the Blue Devils never attempted a pass. The defense dominated the line of scrimmage allowing 2 total yards until the 4th quarter when BH emptied the bench. By the end, BH outgained the Hilltopper 357-112.
The Big Hit this week was made by Danny Golden and Kyle Lamm. The Defensive Player of the Game was Josh Kessler. Special Teams Player of the Game was Jake Huffman. The Offensive Player of the Week was sophomore Reed Collins who had 202 yards and four touchdowns. Lineman of the Game is awarded to the entire offensive line. Scout Team Player of the Week was Krystian Ingram and Tyler Russell.
Making the playoffs was one of the goals for this year’s team. We definitely did it the hard way, having to win our final three games to qualify. Facing elimination and being able to soundly defeat our last three opponents should give this team confidence as we enter into post season. We will be traveling 188 miles to Staunton, Illinois to play the 3rd seeded Bulldogs. Our strong schedule really helped us because we earned 48 playoff points; 38 points was the cut-off. Staunton is 8-1 and champions of the Prairie State Conference. They are led by senior running back #40 Blake Steele who has rushed for 1000 yards this season. Adam Boston #36 and #23 Dusty Graves are two other running backs who have combined for over 1000 yards and 18 touchdowns. OT/DT Mike Ebersohl #77 anchors both lines. Their offensive line is big averaging 245 lbs per man. They are coached by Mike Pertenier.
Our Blue Devils football team has reached one major goal; now it is time to get greedy. We cannot be satisfied with just making the playoffs…Now let’s go win a game. The game will be played on Saturday at 2 pm. This involves a change in routine, a long trip, and many other distractions. This will be a test of our maturity to see how we handle change. I imagine very few “experts” give us much of a chance of winning against a strong conference champion…But if you have watched this group of young men throughout the year you have witnessed how much they have improved and how hard they are playing, I think you will agree that we will be a dangerous team for anybody to play.
“TOGETHER”
Go Blue!
