This Week’s Message From the Coach Dodd

It was another impressive display by the Blue Devils.  Clinging on to a 27-26 lead at the start of the 4th quarter, the Blue Devils scored 20 consecutive points to roll to a  47-26.  The offense was impressive all night gaining 446 yards on the ground and 515 overall.  The Devils ran 75 total plays and netted 30 first downs and only punted once.  Reed Collins was the player to watch carrying 31 times for 260 yards and six touchdowns.  Adam Baker scored the other touchdown on a 25 yard pass from Michael Grant.  Nine players carried the ball on this cool night.  Fullbacks Matt LeCleir and Ross Darby combined to rush for 168 yards and LeCleir had his first 100-yard game.  Quarterback Michael Grant was efficient in the passing game going 3-6 for 67 yards and a touchdown.

The defense played solid but still gave up two big plays which has been the concern all season.  The biggest play of the night was when the Buffaloes’ Alex Pratt stole the ball from Collins and raced 75 yards for a score in the first quarter.  This 14-point swing allowed Georgetown to remain close in the first half.  Dakota Patton led the team with 8 tackles and Danny Golden recorded five.  Michael Grant had his second interception of the year and Luke Thornsbrough caused two fumbles and recovered one.  The Defense allowed 211 total yards.

The Big Hit this week was made by junior Alex Hahne. The Defensive Player of the Game was Junior Dakota Patton. Special Teams Player of the Game was Junior Ian Park who was 5 for 7 on extra points. The Offensive Player of the Week was sophomore Reed Collins who had 260 yards and six touchdowns.  Lineman of the Game was senior Luke Thornsbrough.  Scout Team Player of the Week was sophomore A.J. Gandenberger.

The JV team finished their season with a dominating 40-0 victory over Georgetown.  Sophomores Sam Shoaf and Tyler Russell combined to rush for 126 yards.  Krystian Ingram scored a touchdown, passed for a touchdown, and threw for a 2 point conversion.  Freshman Michael Ganley scored his first touchdown of the season and freshman Luke Horton had an exciting 69 yard td run in the 4th quarter.  The JV squad finished the season with a 7-1 record.  Be excited Blue Devils fans!

The next opponent for the Blue Devils will be the Hilltoppers from Schlarman.  New coach Mike High has done a quality job coaching in his first season back at SHS.  They are led by junior quarterback #3 Heath Goodwin, running back #24 Skylar Dodge, and freshman tackle #64 Tyler Mangum. Goodwin has 800-plus yards rushing and another 500 passing.  This team is better than their record.  They played their best game of the season last week only to lose in the 4th quarter to 7-1 Salt Fork.  To look past this team would be a huge mistake.

The Blue Devils are now 4-4.  It boils down to this…WIN AND WE ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS!  At 2-4 it wasn’t looking too good for the playoffs, but our players have rallied and are now on the verge of reaching their goal.  One more obstacle stands in the way…The Hilltoppers.  It will be senior night and we will honor our 7 seniors; Cameron Cottingham, Danny Golden, Jon Rogers, Derek Davis, Cody Longest, Michael Grant, and Luke Thornsbrough.  This group of young men has met the challenge and helped change the BHHS football program for the better

If we are able to win this week we have a good chance to make the playoffs.  Another loss and we will be eliminated.  Another road game with playoff implications…don’t miss it.
