This Week’s Message From the Coach Dodd

The fans were on their feet most of the night as the Blue Devils were able to defeat the Westville Tigers 35-12.    Leading 7-0 at halftime, the Blue Devils gained control early in the 3rd quarter by driving for a touchdown.  Then Luke Thornsbrough picked up a fumbled long snap and pushed the lead to 21-0.  Westville showed some fight cutting the lead to 21-12 but the Blue Devils were not to be denied.

Quarterback Michael Grant scored three touchdowns, Ross Darby scored one as well as Thornsbrough.  Junior kicker Ian Park made all five extra points.  Kyle Lamm Dakota Patton had key catches to keep drives alive.  Adam Baker started the second half with a 54 yard kickoff return to set up Grant’s second score.  Baker also added an interception at the end of the game to seal the victory.  Luke Thornsbrough led the Devils with 12 tackles while Darby and Patton had 10 each.

The Big Hit for the week is awarded to Reed Collins. The Defensive Player of the Game was Justin Cauley.  Ian Park was the Special Teams Player of the Game scoring five points.  The Offensive Player of the Week is Michael Grant who scored three times.  Lineman of the Game was Luke Thornsbrough.  Scout Team Player of the Week was Jordan Allsopp.

The JV squad played Westville on Monday night and defeated the Bear Cats 32-8.  Krystian Ingram threw for 125 yards and a touchdown.  Tyler Russell rushed for 91 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns.  Split end Dalton Ervin had 113 receiving yards and scored on a 48 yard pass from Ingram.  The Blue Devils defense held Westville to 4 yards rushing for the game. Junior Dillon Ervin recorded 5 tackles for loss and caught two extra point.  Fullbacks Sam Shoaf and Kevin Allen combined for 105 yards and a touchdown.  The JV team is now 4-0!

The next opponent for the Blue Devils will be the Salt Fork Storm.  They have a 3-1 record after being defeated by MCP last week 33-42.  They are led by quarterback #8 Joe Pratt and running back #3 Lance Hubbard.  Hubbard is a big play running back who has already gained 565 yards and scored 11 touchdowns in the first 4 games.  The Storm has been ranked as high as #4 in the 1A polls this season.    It will be their homecoming game and now that they have been beaten once, they will be very focused for Friday’s game.  They are coached by Brian Plotner and his teams are always big, physical, and quick.  This year’s team is no different.

Winning against Westville is a big confidence boost for our team.  Even though Westville was undermanned due to suspensions and injuries, the win helps turn our program in the right direction.  This week brings another huge mental challenge for our players because we have not been competitive with Salt Fork in the two previous years.  We are 1-1 in the conference and this game is pivotal for us and our quest for the playoffs. “TOGETHER”
Go Blue!
